Cryptography
The science of developing, analysing and deciphering techniques applied to data for secure communication purposes.

Cybersquatting
The registration of well-known trade marks as domain names with the attempt to sell them back to the trade mark owner.

Data Protection

Digital Signatures
Encrypted signatures to verify and authenticate electronic documents.

Domain name

Encryption

IP
Means Intellectual Property, such as Trade Marks, Patents, Copyright etc.

IP Address
IP stands for Internet Protocol. This is the website address, represented by a series of numbers.

ISP
Stands for Internet Service Provider, which provide web users with connection to the Internet.

Meta-tags
HTML code intended to describe the contents of a website.

Patents
Rights in relation to inventions or innovations granting the owner protection against copying or unauthorised use.

Spam
Means unsolicited e-mail.

TLD's
Means top level domain names, such as dot.com., dot.net, and dot.co.uk.

Trade Marks
Symbols, including text, logos, brands, business names and domain names, the rights of which can be obtained either by registration or use.

Trojans
Software programs devised by professional hackers to detect activity on PC's allowing the hacker to assume the user's identity.

URL
Stands for "uniform resource locator" which is the official term for an IP address on the Internet.

Virus
A computer bug which replicates and spreads undetected through computer networks.

Website
A collection of connected web pages, sharing an IP address.

XML
Stands for "extensible mark-up language" which is a more sophisticated version of HTML.

Zip File
